Much of the computational infrastructure of Alpha Complexes systems is based off archival resources that were acquired in the final verifiably non-infected file dump downloaded from the treasonous Alpha Prime. The dump included extensive information intended to assist in interpreting events and resolving issues based upon historical precendent and accepted certainties during that state of emergency in effect at the time. Within this data Our Friend Computer was able to gather proof that resulted in the identification of treasonous activities within Alpha Prime, and which allowed Alpha Complex to sever weak links with infected systems before Communist sabotage could collapse the Alpha Complex from within. In addition, there were significant archival blocks given over to highly regarded and proven Old Reckoning programming - and it was from here that Friend Computer, and High Programmers like Gatzmann-U-ILL, retrieved vital resources to allow enhancement and patching of systems as time went on.
More than 200 years on, much of the original programming has been re-written and developed quite beyond recognition, but Legacy software remains a mainstay of many standard Alpha Complex management systems, especially in the Armed Forces, and original versions are still accessible in Security-locked nodes of the Gatzmann_Archives.
It is not entirely clear from copies in the archives as to whom was responsible for the original programming of this software. Names associated with the files have become somewhat corrupted over time (due to Commie infiltration of the archives) include Nolanb-U-SHL, Alalc-O-RNN, Lyle-R-AIN and, most commonly, Atar-I-INK.
Armed Forces currently use a number of enhanced Legacy packages to manage all types of Complex defence. Software package @5T3R01D5 is used for monitoring of local spacial threats. Given that archival records indicate the very real possibility of interstellar collisions, as featured in the Old Reckoning instructional documentary When Worlds Collide, Friend Computer considers the resources spent on maintaining and improving this software and its associated high energy laser systems well spent.
In addition, the package Z@xx0N is a stealth infiltration system used to locating and destroying Commie strongholds; software packet M155123 C0MM@ND is integral to management of ground-to-air defences; and, the support line control software D3F3ND3R is used to track, locate and airlift personnel assigned to enemy territory.
Application of Legacy software, however, goes beyond the military, and in this regard we find reasonable concerns of Communist infiltration in key systems that may have contributed significantly to the events of the Toothpaste_Disaster.
PL & C utilise Legacy software to manage warehouse inventory transportation and delivery conduit management. Packages 7HRU57 and 73MP357 are utilised to manage these areas, respectively, and both undoubtedly were used to manage movements of materials related to the COL_gate_incident. 7HRU57 utilizes highly flexible TransBot variants to manoeuvre cargo loads through all available transtubes and conduits throughout the Complex; while, 73MP357 co-ordinates a network of modified ScrubBots to monitor and maintain those self-same conduits to better facilitate the speedy deliveries normally managed through the 7HRU57 system.
Central Processing maintain facility surveillance through monitoring and Bot co-ordination controls managed by R0807R0N 2084. The system networks Bot security and surveillance with monitoring protocols to better manage organization of locational security. Lapses in the effectiveness of this software seem to be implicit in the failure to prevent Commie and non-registered mutant infiltration of several key facilities - such as the Sector TNT Chapstick_Factory and Nuclear_Facility_RON-372/B.
Efficient high speed vertical personnel transportation control and monitoring is managed with program 323V@70R @C710N used by HPD & MC. Malfunctions in this software seem likely to have allowed unmonitored access to a non-operational elevator shaft used in the dumping of the remains of Flo-U-RID-3. Delays in the vertical personnel transportation system also prevented efficient deployment of Emergency_Disaster_Response_Teams in the midst of the Toothpaste_Disaster, instigating use of the Zero_Hourcycle_Crisis_Mandate.
The management of the flexible transtube network across all Sectors of Alpha Complex by Tech Services is controlled through 20C0M0710N, and the internal service upgrade patch P1P3 M@N1@. It seems very likely that glitches in the final version of the P1P3 M@N1@ patch were responsible for recently flooding transtubes across multiple Sectors with Mint Choc Hot Fun and impacting the efficient function of the Alternative_Troubleshooter_Team_Insertion_Conduit_(ATTIC) system, overriding standard PL & C transportation security protocols and special developmental management overlays inserted by R&D and Power Services, that led to the Four_Reactor_Foam_Flood.

Commentary:
The temptation to get all nostalgic for some of this software is strong-- who can forget the brilliant Internal Security training systems that are D1GDUG and D0NK3YK0NG, after all-- but it's important that we stay focused on the legacy systems most directly involved with the Toothpaste_Disaster. It pains me to think of 73MP357 possibly being involved-- a lot of my Youth Training (aside from the standard Complex_Youth_Guidance_Program material) involved operating a stripped-down version of 73MP357 to hone the talent for PLC-related skills that my early Aptitude Assessments had already shown.
But to stay on point, aside from these systems which clearly contributed to the Disaster as it was unfolding, are there perhaps others which we rely on, which let us down in the time before the Disaster, and thus contributed to the Disaster eventually happening? For example, I know that some R&D units still do all their microboard tape-out using something very much like 737R15, instead of using the much more current software that PLC uses for mass-production. I know the current theory is that Syntelligent_Systems was hacked by filesharers and there was a mixup involving B4 that created Defective_Batch_ACA675T09-XXXX, but is it possible that this is just a cover to conceal faulty handling of 737R15?

A search of download records indicates the researchers at R&D Lab #41B0 obtained copies of P4C/M4N, B3RZ3RK and J0U57 from the Gatzmann_Archives. These were evidently used in programming the Easter_Bunny_Device.

I know that the Quasi-Random algorithm used by P4C/M4N is actually completely deterministic once you know the initial seed value; maybe we'll be able to catch the Easter_Bunny_Device yet...
